About the Site


The Beginning
The idea of making a blog was not really in my plans then or whatsoever. Med school can be extremely demanding of time that the mere thought of having to spend much time to create, publish, and maintain a blog doesn't really sound appealing. However, a friend of mine, whom I previously met from a social networking site (a popular one) convincingly suggested that I create one. This was on mid-December 2009. Apparently he succeeded at recruiting me into blogging, and thanks to him, now I find myself hooked!. haha.

The Concept
How the blog got its name is quite interesting. After my friend convinced me to go into blogging, the very next thing I was confronted with was what shall I blog about and what name will I give my blog. While engaged in a lively conversation about how prevalent discreet homosexuality and bisexuality is in the Philippines nowadays, an idea popped in my mind that since there are many discreet homosexual and bisexual physicians and would-be-physicians like me, why not blog about that and name the blog "Discreet Doctors." On hearing what I said, my smart business-minded friend suggested that instead of focusing only on medical professionals, why not increase the "market" of my blog by catering to all discreet homosexual and bisexual professionals regardless of their profession.  And so, the name Discreet Yuppies was born!

The "Launching"
After conceptualizing what the blog would be like, how its content should be, I began writing articles . At the same time, my friend and I browsed thought the internet to find the most fitting template to use. I found this template and we both liked it. With my my friend's help, the layout of the site was set up with all the initial tweaks and gadgets added. Now with both a name and cool template plus the few articles I have written, the site was ready for launching!  Finally, few days before the year 2009 ended (specifically December 17, 2009), the site was officially launched for public viewing.

You might be wondering about the new layout of the site. Admittedly, the previous template for this blog was stunning.  It perfectly matched the "Discreet Yuppies" concept of the blog. However, along the way I found its functionality limited.  So with my perusal with the net and my newly-acquired addiction of HTML editing (who would have thought a medical student like me would have an addiction like this... lol) I looked for an new template. Combining elements from both old and new templates and after hours of template html editing and revisions, gadget tweaks, et cetera, I finally came up with my very own unique hybrid template which the site presently "wears." And for that, I am proud of myself! Haha, wag kang kokontra! :) I have never thought of doing things like this in the past!

The purpose
Being a discreet yuppie myself, I created this blog to serve as an extension of my thoughts and as an avenue for sharing my views, opinions, and perspectives on everything that concerns the life of a discreet Filipino yuppie and other discreet yuppies across the globe.

The Objective

I intended this blog to promote and encourage self-expression not only on myself but as well as in others. I believe that everyone has a unique story to tell, and sharing that story will not only benefit the person sharing but may also provide the readers a positive learning experience.

I especially incorporated the CHAT and the FORUM features with my readers in mind. I hope that you will take time to use it, interact with others, and inspire them with your "two cents."

The Goal

I envision this blog to somehow become some sort of a resource site for discreet yuppies like you and me in the near future. I hope that time would not be very distant from now.

I like to think that this blog is not only my own personal blog but rather this is OUR blog, and we will see this grow!
